Stylish Rapper Pitbull to Open Allentown Fair
Urban, Latin, pop crossover artist to perform high energy show on August 26 at Fair’s grandstand
Allentown, Pa.: Pitbull, the fashionable rapper known for hip-hop music infused with Miami-sound and Euro-dance influence, will kick off the 162nd Great Allentown Fair with a performance on opening night Tuesday, August 26.
Tickets to the concert that include fair admission when purchased in advance are $59 and $39 for seats both on the track (floor) and in the grandstand, and $80 for a small standing pit area in front of the stage. They go on sale to the public starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12.
The Latin Grammy award winning self-proclaimed “Mr. Worldwide” has reason to lay claim to that title, according to Fair Marketing Director/Talent Buyer Bonnie Brosious. “Try finding a nightclub, Zumba class or iPod on the planet that’s not blasting his high energy songs,” she said when making the fair’s fifth concert announcement.
Pitbull’s appearance adds an urban, Latin, pop twist to the fair’s line-up that already includes heavy metal rockers Mötley Crüe with special guest Alice Cooper and three nights of country headliners Lady Antebellum with special guest Joe Nichols, Tim McGraw with special guest Jana Kramer and Hunter Hayes with special guest The Swon Brothers.
Miami native Armando Christian Pérez started his music career in his teens in the late 1990s and began to gain mainstream recognition guest rapping as Pitbull on other artists’ albums in the early 2000s. His first solo release, “M.I.A.M.I.,” came out in 2004, and he followed with six more studio albums and two EPs that spawned numerous singles on charts worldwide.
He’s a giant in digital single sales racking up millions of downloads for hits such as “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho),” “Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)” featuring T-Pain, and his two No. 1s on US BillBoard’s Top 100—“Give Me Everything” featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer released in 2011 and last year’s “Timber,” featuring Ke$ha. He just released another single, “Wild Wild Love,” featuring G.R.L.
A singer, songwriter and producer, Pitbull is easily one of major pop stars’ favorite guest artists performing on tracks with Usher, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Janet Jackson , Marc Anthony and more.
He recorded his first full-fledged Latin album in 2010, “Armando,” but often records English and Spanish of his singles. He’s been nominated five times for Latin Grammys winning the award for Best Urban Song Performance of “Echa Pa’lla (Manos Pa’ribba)” in 2013.
Pitbull’s electrifying stage shows feature him in his trademark debonair attire accompanied by instrumentalists, heavy on percussion and bass that add another dimension to the tracks his mix master DJ spins.
Starting Saturday, April 12 at 10 a.m., tickets to the Pitbull concert will be available at the Fair Box Office, online at Ticketmaster.com, over the phone at 800-745-3000 and at Ticketmaster Centers.
