Public Invited to Enter 3rd-annual Oktoberfest Scarecrow Competition & Exhibit at SteelStacks
BETHLEHEM, PA—ArtsQuest is inviting the public to show off its creative side by crafting scarecrows for the third-annual Oktoberfest Scarecrow Competition & Exhibit at SteelStacks Sept. 21-Oct. 11.
The Oktoberfest Scarecrow Competition & Exhibit will feature four categories – Traditional Scarecrows, Contemporary Scarecrows, Kids/Family Scarecrows for ages 12 and under, and the new Rockin’ Scarecrows category. Cash prizes of $150, $100 and $50 will be awarded in the Traditional, Contemporary and Rockin’ Scarecrow categories; the first- and second-place winners in the Kids/Family Scarecrow category will each receive a private movie screening for up to 15 people at the ArtsQuest Center’s Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas.
Any individual or group interested in entering the competition must register at www.steelstacks.org/scarecrow by Sept. 18. Scarecrows must be sturdy, weather-resistant and mounted on a 1.5-inch square post or circular dowel, and they should be dropped off at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks Sept. 20 between 1 and 4 p.m. During Oktoberfest presented by Yuengling, the public will be able to vote for its favorite scarecrows, with the winners announced Oct. 12 on www.steelstacks.org.

The 5th-annual Oktoberfest presented by Yuengling, set for Oct. 2-4 and 9-11, will feature a variety of live music, delicious German food, fun & games and more. Among the highlights of the free festival are the popular dachshund races, Celebrity Skills Challenge, the Craft Brewers Village presented by the Brewers of Pennsylvania, and more.
