PUBLIC INVITED TO ENTER 2nd-ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST SCARECROW COMPETITION & EXHIBIT AT STEELSTACKS
Their sensational smiles and funny faces delighted guests at SteelStacks last fall, and they’re back again this autumn as part of Oktoberfest presented by Yuengling at SteelStacks in Bethlehem.
This fall, ArtsQuest is inviting the public to show off its creative flair by crafting scarecrows for the second-annual Oktoberfest Scarecrow Competition & Exhibit at SteelStacks Sept. 23-Oct. 13. The competition will feature three categories – Traditional Scarecrows, Contemporary Scarecrows and Kids/Family Scarecrows for ages 12 and under. Cash prizes of $200, $100 and $50 will be awarded in the Best Traditional and Contemporary Scarecrow categories; the first- and second-place winners in the Kids/Family Scarecrow category will each receive a private movie screening for 10 people at the ArtsQuest Center’s Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas.
Any individual or group interested in entering the competition must register at www.artsquest.org/scarecrows by Sept. 14. Scarecrows must be sturdy, weather-resistant and mounted on a 1.5-inch square post, and they should be dropped off at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks Sept. 21 between noon-2 p.m. During Oktoberfest presented by Yuengling, the public will be able to vote for its favorite scarecrows, with the winners announced Oct. 13 on www.artsquest.org.
Any individual or group that wants its scarecrow returned must pick it up at the ArtsQuest Center Oct. 14. For complete details and the official entry form, please visit www.artsquest.org/scarecrows.
Oktoberfest presented by Yuengling, set for Oct. 3-5 and 10-12, will feature a variety of live music, delicious German food, fun & games and more. Among the highlights this year will be the popular dachshund races, Celebrity Skills Challenge, new craft brewers’ village presented by the Brewers of Pennsylvania, and a free Penn State-Michigan football game viewing party on the Levitt Pavilion Lawn on Oct. 11. This year’s Oktoberfest celebration will be free for the first time in the event’s history thanks to the support of its presenting sponsor, D.G. Yuengling & Son.
