2013 Festival to Feature Special Events, Programs & More Highlighting 30 Years of Musical Magic!

BETHLEHEM, PA–The energy and fun of the nation’s largest free music festival are highlighted in the Musikfest 2013 poster and new festival logo unveiled today by ArtsQuest.  The announcement of the new logo and poster mark the start of the 30-year celebration for the Bethlehem-based event, which attracts up to one million people to the city each August.  The 2013 Musikfest dates are Aug. 2-11, with more than 300 artists anticipated to perform on 14 different stages throughout the city during the event’s 10-day run.

“Everyone at ArtsQuest is extremely excited about this brand-new poster and logo,” says ArtsQuest Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations Curt Mosel. “The number-one thing we hear from our patrons is that they love the music and fun that make Musikfest so special. The logo and poster are designed to highlight that energy and excitement, while also reflecting on the evolution the event has undergone over the past 29 years.”

Created by ArtsQuest Graphic Designer David Blank, the Musikfest 2013 poster brings to life many of the most popular elements of Musikfest, including the festival’s live music, dancing and iconic performance tents. It also highlights the City of Bethlehem’s rich history, featuring prominent local landmarks such as Central Moravian Church, Historic Hotel Bethlehem and the former Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces at SteelStacks.

“The goal with the Musikfest 2013 poster was to create an image in which every element of the artwork is alive,” says Blank. “By using blue, orange and golden hues prominently in the work, it gives the poster an outward glow, something that’s meant to highlight that magical time at Musikfest when the sun is setting and all of the festival stages are coming to life.”

The new Musikfest logo, the third in the festival’s history, is a custom font featuring wide, flowing letters symbolizing the lively atmosphere, energy and emotion of the event.  In addition to all marketing and promotional materials, the logo will be featured prominently in a variety of festival merchandise and apparel.

The official Musikfest 2013 poster is on sale now for $9.99. It’s available at or by calling the Stacks Shop at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, 610-297-7115.

New Guest Experience at Main Stage, Musikfest Photo Exhibit & Bethlehem School District Shows Among Highlights

In honor of Musikfest’s 30th year, the 2013 festival will feature a variety of special events and activities. Here’s a sneak peek at some of what’s planned; look for more announcements from ArtsQuest at and throughout the spring.

John Gorka Returns!

In August 1984, a young folk singer named John Gorka played the very first notes at the very first Musikfest. This year the renowned artist is back at the festival to perform at its opening ceremonies, Aug. 2, 6 p.m., at Aetna Americaplatz at the Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks. Gorka will also take the stage later in the evening for a free concert at one of the festival’s other stages.

The Bethlehem Area School District Presents

For 2013, the Bethlehem Area School District and ArtsQuest are partnering on a unique educational initiative in which Liberty and Freedom high school students will present and promote two afternoons of musical programming at Musikfest’s Plaza Tropical stage. Students from Anne Skelly’s Liberty and Rob Petrosky’s Freedom “Intermediate Marketing/Marketing Musikfest 30“ classes will book up to four artists to perform between 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. each Saturday; performers and complete details will be announced later this spring.
