New Direction for Mayfair Warrants New Logo

2012 Poster Promotes Breadth of Festival

ALLENTOWN, PA (April 20, 2012) – The leadership of Mayfair, Inc., is committed to forging a new direction for Mayfair Festival of the Arts.  They are illustrating this shift by introducing a new logo for the organization.  “We want the community to understand that Mayfair is going in a new direction,” said Arlene Daily, Executive Director of Mayfair, Inc. “This new logo marks the official launch of all the changes we have in store – for the 2012 festival in a few weeks, and for future festivals as well.”

“The Board of Directors decided on some significant changes this year,” said Mike Hill, President of Mayfair’s Board of Directors. “The transformation of Cedar Beach Park into an Arts Festival providing 49 hours of art and entertainment for families is a significant financial commitment, and requires the support of hundreds of volunteers.  It’s no secret that Mayfair has struggled to meet its financially obligations over the years.  Changes were made by past leadership in an effort to make the event financially viable.  Some of these changes had moved the festival away from what a true arts festival should be, and what Mayfair was known for.  We are planning to return to our roots and some of the improvements are causing an additional financial burden following a year of reduced revenue.  However, our community needs a true ARTS festival once again and we intend to provide it.”

Mayfair’s 2012 festival poster art prominently features the new logo and was designed to specifically illustrate the breadth of art forms patrons will be able to enjoy at Mayfair Festival of the Arts 2012.

Daily explained, “Our Festival exposes approximately 50,000 people in one weekend to the creative works of approximately 1,000 artists exploring every major art form.  We offer an Artist Market for handmade artwork including painting, sculpture, photography, pottery, jewelry and more.  We offer multiple stages for performing arts, including music, dance, theatre, comedy and more.  We offer a children’s art section with music, art activities, dance, interactive theatre and more.  We offer artisanal foods, wines and beer.  Mayfair Festival of the Arts offers access to a full range of arts programming.  We are not just a theatre.  We are not just a music hall.  We are not just an art gallery.  We are not just a children’s art center.  We are all these…and more.  We want everyone to know that Mayfair 2012 will offer a broader range of the arts than have been present in recent years so we created this year’s poster with that in mind.”

Specific changes the organization plans for Mayfair Festival of the Arts 2012 include:

Growth in the visual arts

  • There will be two Artist Markets: the one that has for many years been along the main walkway, and a new one call the ‘Artist Esplanade’ to be located at the Ott Street entrance.
  • Increase in the number of artist booths
  • Improvement in the quality of artist booths

Eliminating elements that don’t belong in an arts festival

  • No vendor Marketplace (the area where commercial vendors promoted their wares)
  • No carnival games or inflatables

Inspire and educate more children in the arts-centered KidSpace

  • Allentown School District’s teachers of the arts have developed arts activities for kids to participate in
  • Hours of kid-friendly programming will be extended an additional 2 hours so families can return to KidSpace after they enjoy dinner at Mayfair

Broadening the scope of performing arts on the Mayfair stages

  • Mayfair is working on a more balanced schedule that will appeal to all by bringing back a broader range of music genres and adding other performing arts (Schedule to be released at a later date)
  • Memorial Day programming will return

Mayfair Festival of the Arts will take place May 24-28, 2012 at Cedar Beach Park in Allentown.
