Musician, Author, Entrepreneur to Speak at Lehigh University
Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 7PM
Sinclair Auditorium – 7 Asa Drive, Bethlehem PA
Musician, author and entrepreneur Andy Babiuk will be coming to Lehigh University to present his research on The Beatles’ gear one week before the official release of his Beatles Gear ultimate edition and also just before his band, The Empty Hearts, goes on a European Tour. Babiuk’s presentation is sponsored by the Lehigh University Visiting Lectures Series and Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation.
Unlike a typical author “lecture,” Andy Babiuk takes his audience on an audio/visual journey of The Beatles’ history and their music. The presentation is filled with over 200+ rare – some never before seen – photos of The Beatles as well as music and rare studio outtakes. Andy shares insight about the band through anecdotal stories he learned from The Beatles themselves as well as their inner circle while researching Beatles Gear. Unlike other authors who have written about The Beatles, Andy was given exclusive access to not only all the gear ever used by the band, but to members of The Beatles and their most inner circle. (Of note: Andy worked directly with the Rolling Stones and their camp as well when he wrote Rolling Stones Gear).
Lasting about 50 minutes in length, Andy leaves time for a Q and A, followed by a book signing.
Andy Babiuk is a musician, author, consultant, and owner of Andy Babiuk’s Fab Gear in Fairport, New York. He is a founding member and bassist of the supergroup, The Empty Hearts (est. 2014) featuring Elliot Easton of The Cars, Clem Burke of Blondie, and Wally Palmar of The Romantics and was also a founding member of The Chesterfield Kings. Babiuk is the author of Beatles Gear (2001), TheStory of Paul Bigsby (2009), RollingStones Gear (2014) and soon to be released, Beatles Gear – The Ultimate Edition. A tome with more than 500 pages, The Ultimate Edition provides new insights about the gear the Fab Four embraced throughout their brief but revolutionary career, from their earliest days as The Quarrymen to the dissolution of The Beatles in 1970. John, Paul, George, and Ringo’s moves from cheap early instruments to the pick of 1960s technology are carefully and entertainingly documented in an easy-to-read narrative, fully illustrated with many previously unseen photographs, a cache of rare memorabilia, and a unique collection of specially photographed instruments used by the Beatles. The world’s leading authority on Beatles and Rolling Stones gear and vintage guitars, Babiuk also serves as a consultant to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and to prestigious auction houses in New York, Los Angeles and London. He worked as technical consultant and associate music supervisor for David Chase’s feature film Not Fade Away released by Paramount Pictures in the fall of 2012. Babiuk resides in Rochester, New York with his wife and six children. He continues to lecture about all that is Beatles and Rolling Stones gear all over the world.
