Modest Mouse Kicks Off New ‘Yuengling Summer Concert Series’ at SteelStacks May 21
BETHLEHEM, PA–Fans of chart-topping indie rockers Modest Mouse will have an opportunity to see their favorite act like never before when the group plays May 21 in front of one of the most unique concert backdrops in the nation, the former Bethlehem Steel industrial plant in Bethlehem, Pa. Tickets for the 8:30 p.m. concert, which is part of the new “Yuengling Summer Concert Series at SteelStacks,” are $40. They go on sale March 11, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and March 14, 10 a.m., to the public at www.steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.
Formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Wash., Modest Mouse has become the indie rock standard over the past decade. The band released its first full-length album, This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About, on the Up label in 1996, and followed that up with The Lonesome Crowded West in 1997.
The group’s breakthrough album, Good News For People Who Love Bad News, was released in 2004. The recording included the hit “Float On” and sold more than 1.5 million copies, earning the band two GRAMMY nominations. In March 2007, the group put out We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, with the recording debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.
The new Yuengling Summer Concert Series at SteelStacks will take place at SteelStacks’ Levitt Pavilion, the award-winning outdoor music venue located at the base of the 250-foot-tall former Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces. The shows are not part of SteelStacks’ free Levitt Pavilion Summer Concert Series presented by Highmark Blue Shield, which presents 50 free concerts for the community from Memorial Day Weekend through mid-September. For the Yuengling Summer Concert Series performances, the Levitt Pavilion will be gated with a standing-room-only capacity of 3,000.
“Since SteelStacks opened in 2011, audiences have really come to love the outdoor concerts offered on the site, with people from 40-plus states enjoying performances at our outdoor stages and at festivals like Musikfest,” says ArtsQuest Senior Vice President of Programming Patrick Brogan. “The combination of great, live music, coupled with the stunning backdrop of the former Bethlehem Steel furnaces, makes for a concert experience unlike any other.
“In addition to this performance, we hope to bring more Yuengling Summer Concert Series performances to SteelStacks in the future, with all proceeds from the shows going to support the 700-plus free performances we present at Musikfest in August, as well as at SteelStacks year-round. We’re honored that an electrifying group like Modest Mouse will be the initial act in this exciting, new series.”
Modest Mouse fans looking for the ultimate concert experience will want to take advantage of the Premium Ticket Package featuring admission to the show, plus great food, beer and soda on the Sands Deck starting at 6 p.m. The evening’s menu will include delicious options like Pulled Pork and Beef Brisket Sliders, Grilled Vegetable Platter, Pierogies and Double Chocolate Brownies, along with Yuengling Lager, Yuengling Light Lager and assorted Coca-Cola beverages. Premium tickets are $99 and also go on sale March 11, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and March 14, 10 a.m., to the public at www.steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.
“There are few places in the U.S. that offer the unique concert experience you’ll find at SteelStacks,” says D.G. Yuengling & Son Assistant Operations Manager Jennifer Yuengling. “We’ve been honored to be a proud partner with ArtsQuest for the past five years, and we’re looking forward to joining them again this summer to bring some amazing bands and musical acts to our region while helping to support music and arts programming in the community. Let’s get the music started!”
