Lehigh Valley Music Awards Announce 2016 Youth Education Scholarship Recipients

BETHLEHEM, PA—Parkland High School’s Christina Colanduoni, Southern Lehigh High School’s Luke Simons and Wilson Area High School’s Leah Kun have been named the recipients of the Lehigh Valley Music Awards presented by Tri Outdoor’s 17 Youth Education Scholarships. Presenting the scholarships to the students at this year’s awards ceremony, set for March 6, 4 p.m., at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, will be Parkland School District music teacher and 2015 Music Educator of the Year GRAMMY nominee Debra Reilly.

Colanduoni, Simons and Kun were among the many students nominated for this honor as a result of their academic achievements, involvement in their high school music departments and desire to pursue music in higher education.

A pianist, vocalist and saxophonist, Colanduoni is a member of Parkland High School’s marching band, concert band and jazz ensemble band. She plans to major in music education in college.

Simons is the principal clarinetist for the Pocono Youth Orchestra, a clarinetist in Southern Lehigh High School’s concert band and marching band, and the lead tenor saxophonist in the Elites Jazz Band. He plans to major in clarinet performance at the collegiate level.

Kun, a lifelong singer and self-taught pianist, is a member of Wilson Area High School’s choir and audition ensemble group. She earned the honor of participating in the Region 5 chorus during her senior year, and she plans to study music education at a four-year university.

“The Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association’s commitment to celebrating the region’s musicians and music scene includes recognizing our talented emerging artists,” says Mimi Gloria, co-director of the Lehigh Valley Music Awards.  “We are honored to help support these students in achieving their dreams.”
