deadmau5light saberAllentown, Pa. – The much anticipated announcement of The Allentown Fair’s Saturday night show has arrived. It’s official—an artist and genre never before at the fair fills the September 5 open slot completing the Grandstand line-up of concerts with an EDM master.
Deadmau5 (pronounced “dead mouse”)—a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman—will perform his headlining set in an all-ages show starting at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 24 at 12 p.m.
“Firsts” are pretty typical for the Canadian progressive electronic music producer and performer. In 2012, he lit up the Grammy Awards telecast celebrating electronic music for the first time and was the first artist of the genre to grace a cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
He is consistently on the top rung of headliners at EDM festivals, and is often featured at the world’s top rock music festivals, most recently performing a heralded set at Bonnaroo last month.
This will be his first time performing at a fair, adding another distinction to his repertoire of “firsts.”
The evolution of deadmau5 from experimenting with sounds and visuals on his mother’s computer in the ‘90s to a trailblazing electronic artist today still relies on experimentation. He finds new ways to transport listeners and especially a live audience into a sound and imagery explosion of musical variations, and his on stage performances are marked by this quest.
Last year he released the Grammy nominated album, “(1 < 2) ,” which garnered critical acclaim as was lauded on previous releases, “4 X 4 = 12,” “For Lack of a Better Name” and “Random Album Title.” Singles with international chart rankings include “Soft Needs a Ladder,” “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff” and “I Remember.” He has received multiple JUNO Awards and three GRAMMY nominations.

The electronic mouse helmet deadmau5 often dons while performing is a distinct feature to his stage shows and renown. Its motif instantly identifies the artist and his music.

Fair Talent Buyer Bonnie Brosious said the addition of deadmau5 to the fair line-up responds to a clamor for more big-name EDM in the market. “We jumped at the chance for the area’s largest outdoor venue to present deadmau5, a huge talent of the genre that keeps growing,” she commented.
This completes the fair’s concert roster that includes rockers Def Leppard with Styx and Tesla on September 1, three days of country superstars Little Big Town with Ashley Monroe, Carrie Underwood with Josh Dorr and Eric Church with The Lone Bellow on September 2, 3 and 4, respectively, and pop singer/songwriter Meghan Trainor with Who Is Fancy and Olivia Somerlyn on September 6.
The fair’s traditional closer, the J & J Demolition Derby, will crown a “Best of the East” champion on Labor Day Monday, September 7.
Tickets for deadmau5 are $59 for both general admission festival standing on the floor (track) and reserved seats in the Grandstand. They go on sale Friday, July 24 at 12 p.m. at the Fair Box Office and Ticketmaster outlets, phone and online.
Special hours at the fair box office located behind the Ritz Barbecue on the Allentown Fairgrounds will be held 12-4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 24-25. Regular box office hours continue Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. until further notice.
Tickets are still available for all shows and they include admission to the fair when purchased in advance.
Advance purchase tickets for half price off regular fair admission, discount ride all day wristbands and concert premium parking are also sold at the fair box office and online.
