Eric Church to play Allentown Fair for first time September 4
Country singer-songwriter Eric Church has sold a lot of records, won a lot of awards and been posting a lot of high attendance numbers on his current “The Outsiders World Tour.” But on September 4, he is doing something for the first time.
Church will perform at The Great Allentown Fair on the Friday night kicking off the Labor Day holiday weekend.
Tickets for the show starting at 7 p.m. go on sale Saturday, May 2.
“This is one of the country music’s big guys, the kind the Fair is always proud to bring to the area,” Bonnie Brosious, fair marketing director and talent buyer, commented.
The Fair announces Church as the country music community looks forward to one of its biggest nights, Sunday’s Academy of Country Music (ACM) award show airing on CBS. Church is up for Male Vocalist of the Year. The fair’s two previously announced country artists Little Big Town performing September 2 and Carrie Underwood appearing September 3 are nominated for Vocal Group of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, respectively.
“Feels like we have a major country music festival right in the middle of the Fair this year with these huge headliners performing three days in a row,” Brosious added.
Hailing from North Carolina, Eric Church has carved out his own niche as a country artist that blends an evolving eclectic music mix of country, rock and southern rock influences with story-telling lyrics filled with emotion and attitude.
He released his first album “Sinners Like Me” in 2006 charting Top 20 singles “How ‘Bout You,” “Two Pink Ladies” and “Guys Like Me.”
His career caught fire with his next album “Carolina” released in 2009 that posted Top 10 hits “Love Your Love the Most” and “Hell on the Heart.”
Church’s dynamic live performances bolstered the ascent that pushed “Chief,” his 2011 platinum-selling third album, to debut at No. 1 on both Billboard’s Top 200 Albums and Top Country Albums charts. “Chief” spawned two No. 1 singles “Springsteen” and “Drink in My Hand” and other hits “Creepin’,” “Homeboy” and “Like Jesus Does.” It took Album of the Year honors at both the 2012 Country Music Association (CMA) and 2013 ACM award ceremonies.
Church’s tour in support of his current album “The Outsiders” started last year by hitting 12 major European markets, prompting ACM members to present him this Sunday with the organization’s Jim Reeves International Award for promoting country music across borders.
Nominated for ACM’s Album of the Year, “The Outsiders” has posted two No. 1 hits “Talladega” and “Give Me Back My Home,” the single that has gained Church two additional ACM nominations as both the artist and songwriter in the Song of the Year category. The album was voted the American Music Awards’ Favorite Country Album last fall.
In addition to numerous other industry award wins and nominations, Church has had seven GRAMMY nominations. The early dates of his current tour in North American arenas ranked him ninth for attendance in Pollstar Magazine’s Worldwide Ticket Sales Top 100 first quarter stats.
