Easton Main Street Initiative Hosting a Full Peace Candle Lighting and Holiday Open House Evening
Easton Main Street Initiative (EMSI) announces the annual Peace Candle Lighting Evening and Holiday Open House. This year’s event will be held on Friday, November 28th from 5-9pm throughout Downtown Easton. The Peace Candle will be lit at 8pm.
This year’s events will include Ice Carving by Sculpted Ice Works in Centre Square, Horse-Drawn Carriage rides through the downtown, Santa’s Reindeer on display, and roaming street performers. Several kids’ activities will take place in Centre Square, including Trackless Train Rides, a Petting Zoo and a coloring tent presented by ArtSkills! and featuring a Peace Candle image by local artist, Giancarlo DiMarchi. Santa will be available for photos at the Third Street Alliance all evening and Mrs. Claus will be reading holiday tales inside Easton’s new trolley. Cops ‘n Kids Christmas Capers, presented by Just Around The Corner and the Easton Police Department, will be in the North Bank Street Alley with crafts, sweet treats and more. Drinky’s Pub & local Marines will be offering a free draft beer to anyone who makes a donation of a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.
Over 30 downtown retail shops will be open late and kicking off the holiday shopping season. Many merchants will be unveiling their holiday window displays centered on the Holiday Movies theme. A contest for the Best Window Display will kick off that evening. Participants can vote online at http://www.EastonMainStreet.org.
Line Northampton Street! This year, a larger Santa Parade will begin at 6th & Northampton Streets at 7pm, and travel down Northampton Street to Centre Square and onto North Third Street. The Official Illuminator of the Peace Candle will lead off the parade and be joined by the Easton Corvette Club, the Easton Area Middle School 7/8 Marching Band, several floats from local businesses and, of course, Santa. A 275 student-strong Easton Area School District combined 4/5/6 grade choir will join the parade and perform two numbers in Centre Square prior to the candle being lit. A Toys for Tots motorcycle ride, leaving from the College Hill Tavern, will join the final ranks of the parade to make a grand entrance into Centre Square. Motorcyclists interested in riding can find more info at: https://www.facebook.com/BradFoxJoeWargoFallenHerosRun.
TubaChristmas will make their third annual appearance immediately following the candle lighting. They invite all Euphonium, Baritone, Tuba, and Sousaphone players of any age or experience to join them for this holiday concert. (For more info on how to sign-up for TubaChristmas, please email moc.muiropmecisumtranull@ofni) Other evening musical guests include the Easton Area High School Brass Choir, Chamber Singers and String Ensemble, local music act, Oblivian, and the Easton Municipal Band.
Free metered parking will be available throughout the day in the downtown.
Easton’s Peace Candle has been an area tradition since 1951. The largest non-wax candle in the country, and second in the world, the Peace Candle serves as a symbol of peace for all religions and denominations. Peace Candle ornaments will be on sale for $20 throughout the evening.
