Duran Duran to Perform at Musikfest’s Sands Steel Stage Aug. 6

Bethlehem, PA–Duran Duran will headline a special preview night at Musikfest 2015 when the two-time GRAMMY winners take to the festival’s Sands Steel Stage Aug. 6 for an 8:30 p.m. concert.  Tickets for the show are $59-$79 and go on sale starting tomorrow, June 16, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and June 19, 10 a.m., to the public at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378.

Since their platinum-selling, self-titled debut recording in 1982, Duran Duran has sold more than 100 million records around the globe. The group has produced numerous hits including “New Moon on Monday,” “The Reflex,” “Girls on Film,” “Ordinary World,” “Come Undone,” “Hungry Like a Wolf” and “Rio.” In 1983, the band captured two GRAMMY Awards, one for Best Video Album for Duran Duran, and a second for Best Short Form Video for “Girls on Film/Hungry Like a Wolf.”

In addition to the Duran Duran concert, all outdoor stages and food vendors on the SteelStacks campus will be open for the special preview night. Free, live music will take place on the Americaplatz and TD Community stages, with performances by groups such as popular ’80s tribute acts M-80 and Rubix Kube.

Media partner for the Duran Duran concert is 100.7 WLEV. The group’s Aug. 6 performance is the second time the band has performed at Musikfest. On Aug. 11, 2000, it rocked a sold-out crowd at RiverPlace, the festival’s main stage at the time.
The Musikfest 2015 Preview Night marks the first preview night at the festival since 2011, when ArtsQuest presented live music at the new SteelStacks campus and offered open houses at the Sands Steel Stage and Musikfest Café to introduce patrons to the new festival venues on Bethlehem’s SouthSide. While there are no plans to make a preview night an annual part Musikfest, ArtsQuest Senior Vice President of Programming Patrick Brogan says that the  chance to present an iconic band like Duran Duran this year was simply too good to pass up.

“We have been looking for an opportunity to have Duran Duran return to Musikfest ever since they helped us christen our RiverPlace venue with an amazing show some 15 years ago,” Brogan says. “We’re thrilled that everything fell into place this year, and we’re excited to present a dynamic night of music headlined by one of the most well-known bands in the world.”

Musikfest, one of the largest music festivals in the nation, is set for Aug. 7-16 in Bethlehem, with more than 500 performances taking place on 16 stages over 10 days. This year’s headliners include the Flaming Lips Aug. 7, Culture Club Aug. 8, O.A.R. with Allen Stone Aug. 9, Jerry Seinfeld Aug. 10, REBA Aug. 11, ZZ Top Aug. 12, 3 Doors Down and Collective Soul Aug. 13, Darius Rucker Aug. 14, Snoop Dogg Aug. 15 and Alice in Chains Aug. 16.
