Country Sensation Chris Stapleton First Headliner Announced for 2016 Allentown Fair

Mar 2nd, 2016Press Release from The Great Allentown Fair

Allentown, Pa. – Chris Stapleton, country music’s breakout star of the year, will be performing at The Great Allentown Fair on Friday, September 2.

Tickets to this first show announced for the 2016 Fair go on sale starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19.

Stapleton just won Grammy Awards for Best Country Album of the Year and Best Country Solo Performance. His award winning album, “Traveller,” was also the only country album up for the coveted all genre “Album of the Year” Grammy. Its title track was also up for Best Country Song of the year. At the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards last October, Stapleton became the first artist to take home recognition for Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year all on one night. He now leads the field of country artists with seven nominations for Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards that will be presented in April.

Stapleton, a respected performer and songwriter who has written six No.1 hits for country’s biggest stars, seized the spotlight at the CMA Awards performing a jaw-dropping duet with superstar Justin Timberlake. The two took turns on a bluesy collaboration that had the entire Bridgestone Arena crowd including
Nashville’s elite on their feet in elation. Rolling Stone called the performance “show stealing,” and Entertainment weekly lauded it as “an
unapologetic display of abnormal levels of talent.”

Stapleton’s “Traveller” had entered Billboard’s Country Albums at No. 2 in May and with its country, blues, rock and R&B licks, garnered the appreciation of artists and fans with broad musical tastes. Following the CMA awards, “Traveller” became the first album to re-enter the all-genre Billboard 200 at No.
1 where it remained for two weeks and has been hanging around the Top 10 ever since. “Tennessee Whiskey,” the country standard Stapleton covered on the award show, shot to No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

Just this week, Stapleton released a new video for “Fire Away,” another cut off of his award winning album. His haunting, soulful vocal performance underscores the torment depicted in the video, aimed at elevating mental health awareness in support of the nonprofit Campaign to Change Direction’s initiative. It plays more like a short film featuring actors portraying a happy couple affected by the darkness of emotional suffering and only a brief background cameo of the singer at its conclusion.

After a 15-year career as a songwriter and in-demand session player, the Kentucky native with his distinctive voice and superb musicianship is now commanding the front mike of the big stages. His concerts have been selling out including three nights recently at Nashville’s storied Ryman Auditorium
and at the San Antonio Livestock Show this past weekend where he drew an audience of 16,700.

In making the announcement that Stapleton is coming to the Fair, Marketing Director/Talent Buyer Bonnie Brosious said, “This is our favorite opportunity, getting to bring a rising country star to the Grandstand stage that has showcased legends like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Charlie Pride.”

Starting Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m., tickets for the Chris Stapleton concert will be available at the Fair Box Office, online at, over the phone at 800-745-3000 and at Ticketmaster Centers. They are $65 for reserved seats on the floor and $65 and $45 for reserved seats in the grandstand and
include fair admission.  The fair box office behind the Ritz Barbecue on the Allentown Fairgrounds will hold special hours Saturday, March 19 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and be open thereafter Thursdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. until further notice.
