Challenge on for Fairgoers to Break Last Year’s Food Donation Record

Aug 30th, 2016Press Release from The Great Allentown Fair

The challenge is on for Allentown Fairgoers tonight.  Will they hit the five-figure poundage mark after the Second Harvest Food Bank weighs all the food and sundry items collected at the gates tonight during the fair’s “buck and a can” promotion?

‘Buck and a Can’ means instead of paying  the $3 Preview Night charge to get in, fairgoers  pay only $1 by placing a nonperishable grocery item donation in the Second Harvest Food Bank’s bins located at all gates.

Last year’s haul “weighed in” at 9,174 pounds, 1,507 more than the previous year thanks to generosity of fairgoers.

Increasing the bang for the buck, the Fair’s Dollapalooza promotion that debuted last year returns this year with more $1 specials on rides, games and food.

Tonight is the last opportunity to purchase half-priced fair admission tickets for those 13 and over when regular $8 admission is charged starting tomorrow.  Kids 12 and under area always admitted free.

The fair opens today at 4 p.m.  Good seats for the family show KIDZ BOP Kids performing live at 6:30 p.m.  today are still available.
