Catasauqua Youth Soccer Association will host the third annual Sage Stauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament on August 23, 2014 (rain date August 24, 2014) at Catasauqua High School, in Northampton; the goal of the tournament is to raise money for a scholarship fund in Sage’s memory.

Sage passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2010 at the age of 12 from a bicycle accident.  Sage was unique.  Most days, he kept to himself inside playing X-box, building Legos, watching “Friends”; and eating snacks.  Sage was the kid that had few close friends but could talk the ear off of a stranger in a restaurant.  He was quiet and polite, at times lacking confidence yet not worried about what anyone thought of him.  He did things in his own style and fashion often mis-matching socks and clothes.  However, he came alive on the soccer field – gaining confidence; encouraging teammates and competitors alike; and often trying to invent a new move to surprise his opponents.  When he was younger, he never cared about the score.  In the last year he played though, he changed.  He strived to be better; practicing for hours at times to perfect a move. He never wanted to disappoint his teammates.  He quickly became the team captain in a group where he knew no one prior to the first practice.  Soccer helped to shape Sage into the boy that he was; and the man he was on the verge of becoming.  Life without Sage will never be the same – we can only go forward to keep Sage’s spirit alive.

Our goal is to share his passion and love of the game with other kids and keep them involved in sports to build confidence and teamwork; gaining the same advantages from soccer that Sage did.  Games are 6 v 6, small-sided, and 25 minutes long and we have over ninety (90) teams participating in the tournament this year.

We’re also proud to announce that we’ve received donations and support from so many including Coca-Cola Bottling of the Lehigh Valley, Sports Authority, Crayola, Davis Landscaping, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pies on Pizzeria, Chick-fil-a, Feasta Italiana, Ice Cream Lab, Phil’s French Fries, Schyulkill Valley Sports, Swag Tags, Upper Perk Sportswear, Frantz Trophies, Alex and Ani, Atlantis Casino & Resort, Blondie’s, Blue Monkey, Build-A-Bear, Chicago Cubs, Chipotle, Columbus Crew, Copperhead Grill, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Haja Rose Bowl, Independence Family Fun Center, Giant, Keystone Pub, Koziar’s Christmas Village, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, Lehigh Valley Laser Tag, Lehigh Valley Paintball, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Chocolate Tours, Philadelphia Union, Pines Dinner Theater, Premiere Cancun Vacations, Putt U, Qi Spa, Reading United AC, Coinstar/Redbox, Stampin’ Up, Subway Whitehall, Subway Northampton, Valley Preferred, Willowbrook, Just Born, Wegman’s, Red Robin, and Weis.
