“Canawler” Stories to be Featured on Lehigh Canal Dinner Cruise

Jul 10th, 2015Press Release from Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor

Easton, PA (July 9): “Life on the Old Canal” is the theme of a July 18 “Conversations on the Canal” dinner cruise sponsored by the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. The cruise takes place on the Lehigh Canal in Hugh Moore Park, Easton, from 5:30-8 p.m.

Singer and storyteller, Matthew Dodd, will take passengers back in time to the canal days of the 1800’s,  when men, women and children operated the canal boats and tended the locks on the Lehigh and Delaware canals. Dodd has collected a variety of songs about the lives of “canawlers” and uses background stories to put the songs in the context of the times, with the help of his guitar, harmonica, banjo and mandolin.

A buffet of traditional 1800s food will be served by  Culinary Experts of Allentown. The cost of the cruise is $42.50 per person or $80 per couple. For more information or reservations, contact Loretta Susen at 610-923-3548 x221 or gro.hgiheldnaerawalednull@atterol.
