Offering the best of short cinematic achievement hailing from Liberia to Pakistan and Russia to the United Kingdom, the Oscar-Nominated Short Films program spans five days and screens more than 20 short films, including additional acclaimed selections that did not receive an Oscar nomination.

This year’s animated nominees feature the directing debut from Sanjay Patel, who animated beloved Pixar films like Monsters Inc. and The Incredibles. Pixar Animation Studios’ seven-minute Sanjay’s Super Team tells the story of a young, first-generation Indian-American boy whose love for western pop-culture comes into conflict with his father’s traditions. Also not to be missed in this category is World of Tomorrow, where a little girl is taken on a mind-bending tour of her distant future, from two-time Oscar-nominated independent filmmaker Don Hertzfeldt.

Shining a light on human rights violations, Academy Award and Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy returns with A Girl In the River: The Price of Forgiveness, an eye-opening documentary about a rare survivor of an “honor killing,” homicides that claim the lives of more than 1,000 Pakistani women annually due to the belief that a woman has brought dishonor to the family.
