Allentown Fair Wins Communication Awards for Advertising Pieces

Allentown, Pa. ¾ The Great Allentown Fair won accolades in three categories of the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) Hall of Fame Communication Awards during the organization’s annual convention this month in Las Vegas.
The IAFE is the fair industry’s trade association that represents 1,300 member fairs around the world. First place for best color newspaper ad was awarded for an ad that promoted a readers contest in The Morning Call to win “tickets to ride” supplied by the fair’s carnival company Powers Great American Midways.

The popular contest has become an annual tradition attracting readers to find and clip out fair photos appearing in ads running several days in the newspaper, then affix the cutouts to a game board also appearing in the paper and finally submit completed entries for a drawing.

This year’s vibrant ad promoting the contest caught the admiration of judges that represent fairs, media and advertising agencies. It was designed by Morning Call artist Marco Marinucci in coordination with the fair’s marketing department.

A brochure rack card developed by the fair’s marketing department to promote advance ticket sales and special deals and discounts took second place for best printed promotional material.

Gillespie Printing Artist Debra Martin worked with the fair’s marketing department to design the piece and it was printed by the Allentown printing company. A billboard type poster featured on several Pepsi truck backs making their rounds throughout the region ranked third place in the miscellaneous promotional piece category. Designed by Fair Marketing Specialist Terri Schwenk, the poster entitled “Discover What’s FAIR” displayed fair images representing the various facets of entertainment and exhibits offered at The Allentown Fair.

The 2016 Great Allentown Fair runs August 30 thru Labor Day September 5.
