Schadt String Competition Series

The Allentown Symphony Association will host the 21st Annual National Schadt String Competition for Classical Guitar. The competition is an annual competition for up and coming string players, ages 18-30 that rotates annually between cello, violin, and classical guitar. Endowed by Edwin H. and Leigh W. Schadt, two Allentown businessmen, the competition is designed to help launch the careers of young, aspiring solo string artists. On Sunday, March 5 three classical guitar finalists will compete for the $8,000 prize and chance to perform with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra in the March Classical Series concerts. The competition is FREE and open to the public.

Seven semifinalists were chosen during a preliminary competition round at WDIY Studios in Bethlehem PA on January 6, 2016. These semifinalists will compete in a closed competition round at Miller Symphony Hall where four judges will select three contestants to compete in the Finals round on March 5. This year’s semifinalists hail from some of the most prestigious classical guitar studios in the country including Indiana University, Curtis Institute of Music, University of Denver, University of North Texas, University of Southern California, The Juilliard School, and Shenandoah University.
