Kutztown University Maslenitsa Celebration
The Kutztown University Slavic Club will host a Maslenitsa celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium. The celebration will feature the Kazka Ukrainian Folk Ensemble and St. Mary’s Traditional Ukrainian Dancers of Allentown. Following their performances, refreshments including Ukrainian pancakes will be served in the lobby.
Maslenitsa is an eastern Slavic folk holiday that takes place the week before the start of Russian Orthodox Lent. Though now tied to the Christian calendar, the celebration has roots in ancient Slavic sun worshippers and was used to celebrate the arrival of spring.
The event is sponsored by the Association for Campus Events.
