Allentown Band Concert
The new season of the Arts At St. John’s begins with an outstanding offering – the Allentown Band is featured plus soprano Patricia Risley and the women of the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts Touring Choir.
The concert will present an unusual combination of two very distinguished musical groups in the Lehigh Valley. The Allentown Band is the oldest civilian concert band in the country, begun in 1828, while the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts opened 16 months ago.
The Allentown Band under the direction of Ronald Demke, conductor since 1978, will perform their usual attractive musical selections as well as the Symphony #4 of Johann de Meij, contemporary Dutch musician. This number will feature Ms. Risley, Allentown native, who has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera as well as other noted venues. The women of the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts Touring Choir, directed by David McConnell also will be featured in the Symphony #4.
