2016 Lehigh Valley 5K SCADaddle for Research
Join us for the first of many Lehigh Valley, PA, events to raise money for Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) research. SCAD predominantly strikes young, otherwise healthy individuals. It occurs when a tear forms in the innermost layer of the coronary artery. The dissection can lead to clot formation at the tear site or otherwise obstruct blood flow starving the heart muscle of oxygen, causing a heart attack. Unlike the typical heart attack involving atherosclerosis or plaque buildup, SCAD is relatively uncommon and often strikes people living healthy lifestyles. For that reason, it can often be misdiagnosed.SCAD impacts many more women than men, and because research has historically focused on men, doctors do not know much about SCAD.
Research is focused on identifying causes of SCAD, associated conditions, and genetic factors, and identifying the best treatment options to improve outcomes.
RESEARCH IS EXPENSIVE.
SCAD SURVIVORS ARE RELYING ON THE GENEROSITY, CONCERN, AND COMPASSION OF OTHERS TO BUILD A BRIDGE TO ANSWERS. JOIN US FOR A GREAT WEEKEND!!!
