Benner Street Restaurant & Bar
“Benner Street” is one of approximately 260 homes built before 1894, located at the corner of Broadway and Benner Ave. in Fountain Hill. Most of these Century Old Houses are concentrated on streets where the old Hoffert Farm was once located. “BennerStreet” was built in 1886, by a man named Eugene J. Benner, on an old, well worn Indian Trail. Near the end of the nineteenth century Eugene J. Benner opened the East End Hotel at this very sight. Eugene’s son, James, was a veterinarian who was well known in Fountain Hill as “Doc Benner.” In 1906, Louis Schuster purchased the Hotel. He kept the name, (East End Hotel) for a number of years, but changed the name to Schuster’s Hotel, a name it had until 1950. “BennerStreet” Restaurant and Bar along with the spirit of Eugene Benner, has once again become a meeting place where “Good Friends” can enjoy “Good Food” and “Good Spirits” in a comfortable atmosphere.
