Moravian Book Shop
The Moravian Book Shop is the oldest continuously running bookstore in the world. Established in 1745 on the South Side of the Lehigh River, the Moravian Book Shop resided in several locations before moving to its current site in the heart of historic downtown Bethlehem in 1871. Situated on Main Street, across from the Hotel Bethlehem and just a few doors from Central Moravian Church, the Moravian Book Shop is more than just a book store. In addition to a wide variety of books, the store offers a broad array of distinctive merchandise in the card & stationery, gifts, home décor, gourmet and year-round Christmas departments.
Wander through the large selection of Bethlehem and Moravian-themed gifts including the celebrated Moravian Star items. Lighted or unlighted, stars make perfect gifts and are wonderful accent pieces for your own home. Pick-up your favorite specialty tea or unique cooking utensil in the gourmet department while enjoying a cup of coffee or quick lunch in the café. Be sure to check-out the home décor and gift departments where exclusive items from artisan dishes and fine glassware to beautiful leather handbags and distinctive jewelry are always on display. And of course, don’t forget the books. All genres are represented including current bestsellers, non-fiction and children’s books. The book department also includes a full selection on local interests and is regularly host to author events and book-signings.
The Christmas department remains a regular destination for visitors and residents alike. Electric and traditional beeswax candles, with or without the red frill, are available year-round as well as the wide assortment of ornaments. Glass, porcelain, traditional or contemporary – there is an ornament for everyone!
Whether you’re searching for the perfect gift or wanting to enjoy some time just browsing, you are sure to discover something new each time you visit the Moravian Book Shop.
